The novel Good People by Nir Baram is in the shortlist for Rome Prize for literature. Fifteen great names of Italian and foreign authors were chosen by the jury – chaired by the literary critic and novelist professor Sergio Campailla – five in each category: Foreign Fiction, Nonfiction, and Italian Books. The winners will be announced on July 13th at the Teatro Romano di Ostia Antica in Rome. Previous winners of the prize are A.B Yeoshua, Kamila Shamsie, Tahar Ben Jalun and others.
The Rome Prize, sponsored by ‘Host Culture Association’ in Italy, was established in 2000. It is backed by major institutions such as the City of Rome, the Province of Rome and the Lazio Region. The Rome Prize is highly prestigious in the literary fiels and its growing importance is demonstrated by the impressive participation of the major publishing houses, the attention with which the press and television have followed in subsequent editions of the competition and the extraordinary public flocking each year in early July, at the awards ceremony in the incomparable scenery of the Roman theater of Ostia Antica.
